Mardin, the city which meets 25% of annual wheat production in Turkey got geographical indication certificate and branded. As a result of the long efforts of Kiziltepe Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mardin bulgur received the geographical indication registration certificate.On behalf of Kýzýltepe Chamber of Commerce and Industry , the Quality Management Representative, Velit Aydýn received the geographical sign registration certificate from the Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank.
Speaking about the subject, Kýzýltepe Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mahmut Dündar said, '' We have made a lot of effort but thankfully we finally got the certificate of our bulgur. The best quality bulgur produced in the world is our bulgur.We are happy to have received the certificate. Whenever a trader goes online searching for bulgur, the first bulgur that will be seen is Mardin bulgur. It will have great benefits for the future. Big markets will buy our bulgur. We have participated in the fairs to promote it. Finally, our friends introduced our bulgur at the 10th Local Product Fair in Antalya. We also received our certificate there''.
Dündar explained that wheat produced in Mardin is of high quality.
"Our wheat utilizes the most from the sun amongst the wheats grwon in Turkey.Bulgur is made from this wheat. Hard wheat requires proper sunlight .Therefore the taste is also different. After boiling our wheats go very yellow," he said.
